Welcome
Hello and thank you for visiting.
Originally from New Zealand, I have been painting for as long as I can remember, a constant companion balancing my decision to take the more ‘sensible’ path of the corporate world. In 2001 I travelled to London, as many antipodeans did at that time. I enrolled in evening and weekend classes at Central Saint Martins, taking a wide range of classes from life drawing to children’s book illustration and colour theory, anything that scratched the itch.
In 2003 I moved north to Edinburgh, a city I instantly fell in love with. I was accepted onto the Edinburgh College of Arts part-time Art and Design degree programme and spent the next 6 years studying while working full-time.
Alongside painting and exploring mark making, I found a keen interest in moving image and film, departing the college environment with a strong foundation in video production. These skills transferred into the day job where I produced short films for non-profit organisations. These can be viewed on Vimeo here. This experience expanded my audio and digital design skills along with steps into animation.
Over the last few years my focus has shifted back to painting and working with digital and mixed media. I work from photos and sketches done in the local environment. I am interested in capturing structure and volume and creating a strong sense of form in the finished piece. My mixed media work includes the use of collage, acrylic, inks, digital, oil pastels… and occasionally whatever else is to hand.
