Description
Seen here in a winter scene, this gothic revival style building greets visitors arriving on the Island as it looks out over the harbour. Building began in 1903.
The song ‘Lovely Stornoway’ sung by Calum Kennedy features the line
The Town Hall clock of Stornoway,
Chimes it’s message every day,
Heaven can’t be far away,
From lovely Stornoway.
Flanked on 3 sides by pedestrian areas, looking up from almost any viewpoint the clock can be seen. This was the inspiration for this image which is from the North East Corner where the pedestrian areas of Point and Cromwell Streets meet.
The slated turrets can be seen on buildings including some domestic dwellings throughout the Town.
