Isle of Lewis
DIGITAL PRINTS
The Isle of Lewis is home to Stornoway, a port town of around 7,000 people, in the Outer Hebrides. The influences of the Vikings and centuries of trade connected to the waters surrounding the Islands, can be seen in the local architecture and structures inspiring this series of digital prints.
A long love of architectural drawings, starting as a student of technical drawing at high school, I now ‘draw’ images from the built environment using a digital pencil and tablet. This started initially as a means to try out different compositions and placement before committing paint to canvas. However over time I found I liked the drawings, less as a tool, but as an artwork in their own right. Each line is drawn by me, albeit on a screen rather than on paper.
The images are available on postcards, magnets and as prints. A contemporary take on local buildings and landmarks for the modern traveller.
